HEY IF NO GIRLS COMPLAIN ABOUT US BEING SEXIST, THAT MEANS IT ISN’T SEXISM. God.
And then sprinkling in some homophobia in later posts, when the suggestion of an equal ‘gentleman’ group:
‘A gentleman group sounds to be a bit over that side of things, know what I’m sayin’? (Sez the Laddette, Engineer, Anarchist, Beer Drinking, LEGO Fan with the epic collection of shoes and handbags and preferences that are not for public discussion thanks. Just so you know I am not aiming for inapproriate or offensive.)’
Because if you don’t AIM to be offensive, then that means it isn’t! Also shows that the motivation behind a ‘lady’ group is so that fat, lonely Lego fans know who to treat ‘real gurrrrrrd’.
Not going to read through 23 pages of that but the whole idea sounds KIND OF TERRIBLE
congratulations, LEGO, you just called your ONLY FEMALE CHARACTER a male
the sad thing is, this was probably entirely intentional because HF is primarily marketed as a boy’s toy and the whole “EW GIRL COOTIES” thing still pervades children’s culture. not sure why they left it into the fourth year of HF’s life to do this though; they didn’t seem to have a problem making her female status clear on the website before
(also are we really a month into the year and I’ve actually somehow neglected to mention in all this time how awful the new HF website design is? because it is seriously completely. fucking. dreadful.)
time to show a more positive outcome from that loldrama: this is a very, very good post. props, man!
on a related note, for those who haven’t noticed, a few BZPeople and friends of the related parties have come to their defence in responses. we’ll respond to those properly later, when zealousWitch returns from a play her younger brother is doing, but for now, I’ll say this: trying to cover up or ignore a person’s problems is not being a good friend. I definitely don’t expect any of my friends to try and cover up for me should I ever make similar mistakes, and I’d be pretty disappointed if they did. call a spade a spade.
In case you’ve been… well, living, today quite a nasty bout of sexism arose on BZP, sparked by a blog entry by Kraggh (KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH) and continued in the usual braindead comments argument. It involved the usual suspects from the Gay Quarrel from a few months ago, like Velox and Zaranya, and I would argue that it got significantly further out of hand than their earlier bullshit. Of course, it was just crying out for our attention, and we do aim to please.
One difference here, though: when it comes to matters of sexism, nobody is quite as spectacularly scathing on the subject (at least, out of people who I can talk to about BZP) as one particular friend of mine, whose identity I’m concealing at her request. Of course, getting her to write about this incident was the best possible option; certainly better than if I had done it. She did a great job of it, though it’s a shame she didn’t unleash her magnificent rage in it quite as spectacularly as she did via IM. :P
On a final note, since I fully expect the arguing to be razed to the ground when the inevitable punishment smackdown comes, here’s some backups of the entry and its comments thread as it stood when she wrote this for posterity: [Page 1] [Page 2]. They’re fun for all the family, and especially great for impromptu drinking games: for instance, how far in can you read before you’ve facepalmed so hard that you’ve drawn blood?
So, er, yeah. For now, it’s over to she who shall be codenamed “zealousWitch”:

As some may not have known, there has been a continuing form of attack on decency, the more prominent offenders being Kraggh, Velox, and Zarayna. Usually I would hesitate to name names, as I personally try to be polite to people on the internet, but there is no excusing these three… well, there’s no good word for them, without delving into words not to be used in polite company. No-good, disgusting, homophobic, sexist, preachy, pushy people who sneer thinly veiled threats and jeers from behind a wall made up of self-assuring tones and Bible quotes. While I very much respect those that are religious, as I do those that aren’t, I have never stood for people using their religion as an excuse to bully, insult, or otherwise harass others.
I’m sure you, the reader, already are feeling uncomfortable with the description I have offered. Perhaps some of you feel that this is a tad exaggerated, too ‘mean’. Well, up until now, I have had to watch them silently, as they bounded over the line set by decent human standards and tiptoed back to it once the threat of punishment reared its ugly but justified head. I have seen them say things that, had it been said in decent company, would have had them ostracized and shunned for their disgusting behaviour.
Earlier examples are here, on the Lunacy. I am, personally, of the mindset that other people’s relationships are not my business, and while I cannot comprehend why people would object to someone they don’t even KNOW getting married, I respected that their religious views barred them from approving. BZPower has had some great moves with the approval of different sexualities; some time ago, fanfiction with homosexual pairings was allowed to be posted. It was a grand move on their part; no matter what your religion or stance, you must agree that enforcing the ‘It’s okay to be you’ mindset on children can be nothing but positive.
Unfortunately, some people do not feel this way.
It is sad to note that Velox was, and still is, a Forum Assistant on BZPower, despite his blatant violation of the rules set down by BZPower, rules he was meant to enforce instead of break and abuse. I have been told that while the other participants back then were disciplined, Velox was reprimanded by both Black Six and Hahli Husky, and given one final chance. Some of my friends have theorised, however, that he may have been let off the hook because he threatened to publicly claim that the punishment is harassment and discrimination based on their religion. While the flaw in his argument is as plain as day, it may have worked if this is true. If you wish to hear more about this, you can look through the Lunacy’s ‘homophobia’ tag.
What I am here to talk about today is the most recent spat. Between the burst of homophobia and now, Kraggh and Zarayna have been making some journals that have the slightest insulting undertone. Many of these have a phrase like “I would like to do this, but it might be too religious for BZPower.” For those unaware of BZPower’s rules, it is forbidden to talk about things that may incite arguments- examples include religion and politics. You are, however, allowed to freely talk about your sexual orientation, as it is a perfectly natural part of one’s self.
But, recently, they have started targeting a new group that has utterly disgusted me.
When we thought they could stoop no lower than homophobia, they prove us all wrong and turn to sexism.
I am female, and I consider myself a feminist. I would like to, one day, be treated as a member of the human race, not as some animalistic subspecies. Sometimes, I feel like the world is advancing towards that goal. People like Kraggh, Zarayna and Velox helpfully remind me that there are still those out there who think that their gender gives them more rights than mine.
A GIRL is good at VIDEO GAMES? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??? This hilarious comedy scenario completely subverts everyone’s expectations
Also “boy scum”, I can’t wait for the social justice bloggers to start using that one
