You want to know more about us? Holy shit, you must be REALLY bored. :P
Okay, here’s the short form of the story: we’re a fandumb blog about shitty things in the LEGO fandom (or, I guess, a comparatively small part of it). Here, I’ve just copypasted this from our sidebar since it explains it even better already:
LEGO is perhaps the ideal toy. It fosters creativity, and from that creativity and freedom flow myriad works of breathtaking calibre. The LEGO fandom at its best is an incredible creative force, producing amazing works of scale and complexity beyond our wildest dreams, rendered lovingly in perhaps the most versatile childrens’ toy there is.
That’s not the part of the fandom we’re here to celebrate.
This one’s for the unintentional comedy the LEGO fanbase so often affords. The quirky, offensive, uneducated or otherwise unintentionally funny comments on forums and news sites alike. The fan art and writing of questionable calibre. The hastily slapped together MOCs. The senseless loldrama. And above all else, the people who take it all far, far too seriously. Ladies and gentlemen, here’s to the very bottom of the barrel that is the LEGO fandom.
A side note: we (probably) don’t hate you. We actually don’t hate anything at all! We just find your words or actions really funny, and we’re sharing the incredible mirth with the world.
Yeah, we’re aware this isn’t nice work. Yeah, we’re aware it makes us douches. But hey, we were lost causes already in that respect. Might as well use our douchey talents to make people laugh.
Lunacy “policies” (may or may not have been devised by lunatics)
What are you trying to do here?
Absolutely nothing, actually. We’re not here to be some sort of fandom watchdog, to try to correct the flaws in this fandom, or to secretly manipulate everything and everyone in it from the shadows (apparently some people seriously think this). In short, we’re just here for your entertainment (as the ancient spam colloquialism goes, go watch your foot if we’re not that amazing).
We are sort of interested in studying and researching why BZP ended up breeding so much ridiculous loldrama because that’s actually kind of an interesting topic, but that’s such a deep and ancient mess that it’s kind of out of our ability to do so, so that’s not it either (all attempts on my part to get Lime to share his extensive research on the matter with the world have failed :[).
Who runs the HMAS Piece of Shit?
This dude, this dame, this guy, and this loser. For the most part we don’t actually try to distinguish who posts who, because really who cares, but as a general rule of thumb:
We’ve all been around this fandom for far too long for our own good, so we’ve got a decent idea of what goes on around the place.
BAAAAAWWW WHY YU HATEZ BPZOWER
That’s actually a comparatively long and interesting topic to think about. The short version of it is that criticism does not automatically equal hatred. There is much to criticise about BZP, certainly, but no matter how much I criticise it, that doesn’t mean I hate it at all. After all, hating a children’s construction toy website is pretty pointless.
Now, I will admit that when I started this thing, my feelings toward BZP were primarily characterised by animosity, particularly toward its management. In a stunning twist of irony, it was doing the Lunacy itself which turned my opinion around - since it actually forced me to pay attention to goings-on. These days I’ve ended up with a far more positive view of the site and community, and I honestly feel it’s in a better position socially now than it has been in the past few years. Of course, there are plenty of issues and plenty of things to criticise, but the way I see it, it manifests more as disappointment that this sort of thing is still happening.
Or something.
Actually, all of the above applies to literally everything we cover.
tl;dr hat is a strong word
What’s with the name of the blog?
“The Lunacy of LEGOman Values” is derived from the work of one Vezon the Piraka, a former member of BZPower reviled for his despicable treatment of other members and his gratuitously racist, Nazi-laden and generally shitty sprite comic work. The name itself is a humourous take on his last sprite comic work, “The Lunacy of Earthman Values”, which was what ultimately got him banned from BZP (he still knocks around deviantART with it, but people just ignore him now).
It actually took a while to come up with that, and every other name we thought of was either terrible in general or a failed attempt at being funny.
Incidentally, the title “relentless quest for HATE DESPAIR” is just another VTP joke. Arguably it’s the better of the two we’ve used here.
DISCLAIMER: Being named after VTP’s work is NOT a badge of honour for him or an endorsement of his actions. Despite what he seems to think, we do not like him, he is a prime example of the sort of things we post here, and we absolutely repudiate him and his actions, which have caused harm to many friends of ours in the past.
What’s the deal with bzpreview?
nobody cares
“Bonkles”?
In hindsight, we’re not sure how we started doing this either. It’s just a humourous corruption of “Bionicle”, often used in place of the line’s actual name to refer to it. I guess it’s meant to be a bit condescending?
